About the Race
The Kailas Mogan Mountain Running Race runs across the forested ridgelines above Moganshan, a mountain retreat long known for its bamboo groves and cool summer air. With seven distances from 8.5km to a 99km ultra spanning nearly 5,900m of climbing, the course tests everything from first-time trail runners to seasoned ultra racers on technical, densely wooded singletrack. The race is based out of Yucun, a village at the foot of the mountain that serves as the start/finish hub and bib pickup point.
Location
Moganshan sits in Deqing County, part of Huzhou City in northern Zhejiang Province, within reach of both Hangzhou and Shanghai. The mountain has drawn visitors since the early 1900s, when Shanghai-based foreign merchants and missionaries built more than 150 Western-style stone villas among its bamboo-clad slopes to escape the summer heat — a legacy that earned it recognition as a national key cultural relics site and left the area dotted with restored century-old retreats alongside its dense forest trails.
